Who Am I?
My background is basically that of a typical self-taught graphic designer. Back in the days before the internet, I was drawing logos and lettering, cutting and pasting flyers and zines, and collaging artwork for posters. I wrote for, laid out, and published a series of fanzines and tabloids. In the mid 90′s, I spent a lot of time figuring out the technical ins and outs of digital printing and layout, and specifically the Adobe software suite, and turned all those passions into jobs doing prepress and design for book printers and publishers.
I was a latecomer to the web, but I’ve done substantial amount of work on the web now. Taught myself a little more than a designer’s knowledge of PHP and Javascript, in order to take advantage of some possibilities for interactive content that weren’t widely used. I’ve worked with several WordPress sites, both as blogs and as general CMS. Currently, I’ve been working on standards-compliant interactive websites using combinations of PHP/MySQL and Prototype JS framework. Oh, and I’ve done a bit of dabbling in Ruby and Flash, as well.
I’m still working on design projects, in all kinds of new mediums as they come up. My last long-term gig had me doing 3D modeling for new products and architectural renderings of proposed projects as well as identity, design and web development, and marketing and promotion. A few more recent projects are archived on my portfolio.
I’m currently looking for freelance projects. Drop me a line if you’d like a consultation or an estimate.
This is an experimental space. I’ll probably keep testing out new styles here that I haven’t had a chance to use in live work. Expect broken styles from time to time (like, uh, right now).
