English and Vietnamese versions of the home page
This was the first multilingual website I designed. After the basic site design was done, the company decided that the same data, forms, and interactive calculators had to be available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. So… some simple and unobtrusive flags, and voilà! (the center flag, the yellow field with the three red stripes, is the old Republic of South Vietnam flag).
The previous design
The previous design (left) was mostly sufficient functionally, but fairly dated looking and not very user-friendly. So rather than a design from scratch, I was able to use most of the organization structure from the old site, identify and clear up a few pain points, and just focus on improving the look through color and typography. With a few simple gradients based on the company’s branding scheme, I think I helped make a website which inspires much more confidence and comfort in viewers.
The WordPress plugin that made all the translation possible was Polyglot 2.0, which worked great for its purpose, although I had to tweak the IIS server to configure the permalinks. Under Apache, I’ve had no problems whatsoever with the plugin.
